Week 8: CST 300 - Major Pro Seminar

Part 1: Review Other Teams' Final Video Projects

The first video I will review is "Digital Immortality" by the group Fantastic 4. The video fully meets and exceeds the evaluation criteria. The topic is timely, deeply relevant, and impressively well-researched, with strong supporting evidence throughout. The presentation is clear, logically structured, and engaging from start to finish. The narration is professional, and the use of visuals and sound effectively enhances the message. The pacing and tone are balanced, holding attention without overwhelming the viewer. The ethical considerations and legal implications are thoughtfully explored, making the content suitable for both general and technical audiences. Team collaboration is evident in the cohesive production quality and depth of information. My only concern is that the footage and visuals appear sourced from the web, which may raise questions about proper licensing or usage rights.

The next video is "Drones: Friend or Frenemy?" which is done by group 8. The presentation is informative and clearly structured, offering a comprehensive overview of drone history, current applications, and potential drawbacks. The team covers key areas such as agriculture, delivery systems, and AI integration using YOLO V3, demonstrating solid research and understanding of the topic. The video is delivered in a traditional presentation style, with clear narration and appropriate pacing. While the production lacks the polish or visual engagement of a professional video, it communicates the material effectively and maintains audience interest. Teamwork is evident in the division of sections, and the content is suitable for both general and technical audiences. Overall, it's a good presentation that fulfills the assignment requirements in a straightforward and educational manner.

The third video I want to review is "How Search Engines Work". The Otterly Intelligent team did an excellent job presenting a complex topic in a clear and engaging manner. The video thoroughly covers how search engines work - from crawling and indexing to query processing and ranking, making it accessible for both the general public and technology professionals. The research is strong and up-to-date, with accurate explanations of technologies like BERT, RankBrain, and structured data. The presentation style is well-paced, and the speakers are confident and easy to follow. Visual effects and animations enhance the slides without being distracting, making the video enjoyable and easy to watch. Teamwork is evident through the well-divided narration and seamless flow. Overall, this is a well-produced, informative, and audience-appropriate presentation.

Part 2: Final Thoughts: Learning, Teamwork, and Takeaways

What I Have Learned in the Class:

CST 300 has been a valuable introduction to the Computer Science program, equipping me with essential academic and professional skills. Through the lecture portion, I developed goal-setting strategies, time management plans, and an Individual Learning Plan that aligns with my career goals. The course also helped me improve my research and presentation skills, especially through the final video project and weekly learning journal entries. In the writing lab, I learned to think critically, argue ethically, and communicate effectively in various formats. Writing the Industry Analysis and Ethics Argument papers strengthened my ability to analyze trends and defend positions clearly and logically. I now better understand how to present my ideas professionally, both in writing and visually. This course has prepared me for future classes and set a strong foundation for my long-term growth in the tech industry.

Team Communication and Collaboration:

Our team held Zoom meetings every Friday evening to ensure we were all aligned before the weekend, when most of our project work was done. We communicated primarily via Discord throughout the week and used email when needed. Google Drive served as our shared workspace for file storage and collaboration. These tools allowed us to stay organized and productive and complete all our tasks on time with no major issues.

Improving Collaboration in the Future:

I'm generally satisfied with how our collaboration went. Since we didn't face any problems, there isn't much I would change. However, as projects become increasingly demanding, I believe it's important to support and encourage each other. Staying motivated and connected can make a big difference in maintaining team enthusiasm over time.
